Alexa Tawzer
English
Ms. Tawzer is a native Oregonian who was born in Portland and moved with her family to Central Oregon when she was in third grade. When her mom, Mrs. Tawzer, accepted a position as the high school English teacher at CCS, she became her unofficial teacher’s assistant and fell in love with teaching and the CCS community. After she graduated college, she took a position as the middle school English teacher at CCS and is now the ninth and tenth grade English teacher.
She earned an Honors Bachelor's of Art in Liberal Studies from Oregon State University - Cascades with a course focus on English Language Arts and graduated summa cum laude, earned the Distinguished Student Award for her major, and completed her honors thesis in the field of English Language Arts. She recently had a paper accepted and will present in September at The Undiscovered C.S. Lewis Conference at George Fox University.
Ms. Tawzer firmly believes that everything in our world reveals Christ, by whom all things were created (Col. 1:16). Because of this, she is excited to be part of a community that connects every part of the learning experience to her faith in Jesus Christ. She looks forward to working alongside students and families in a Christian learning community that reflects God’s heart for us. Books and stories have always been an important part of her life, helping to form her into the person God created her to be. She believes that God uses stories to illuminate who He is, who we are in Him, and our place in the world He created. Through the examples of characters who face obstacles and transform, stories show us how we can live out our role as light-bearers in God’s story and heroically transform the world around us. It is her prayer that our words and our stories would be pleasing to God as we learn to read wisely, write effectively, and communicate honorably.
Ms. Tawzer is passionate about the field of English Language Arts and has studied it extensively. She has completed an honors thesis introducing a new narrative structure, a type of character arc called the Awakening Arc. Her work with creative writing has been just as important to her as her work with academic writing. She has written two novels, attended a writer’s conference, and am currently revising a novel for publication. One of her favorite things to do is have a conversation about books and writing. She is always ready to talk about current reads, book recommendations, or tips for writing–either academic or creative!
