Welcome to CCS Online 7-12

Welcome to CCS Online 7-12

Our teachers have been working very hard to expand their online teaching tools so that formal teaching/learning doesn’t stop during the coronavirus pandemic. Every student needs to participate in our online Christian learning community so we can be successful together! Students, parents, and teachers alike have not experienced a situation like this before.  We are all learning as we go and our process for CCS Online will continually be refined. Your input is needed and will be very helpful! Central Christian will send a survey on Friday, April 10 seeking your feedback. Please carefully review the following information:

  1. The new CCS Online schedule will start Wednesday, April 1 and continue through April 28 on our A and B rotation. You will find the schedule details below.

  2. CCS Online learning will require a laptop, iPad, or tablet. Using smartphones can be problematic. The school’s Chromebooks will be made available for check out to students who do not have access to a laptop or tablet or to families with multiple children. Please let me or Holly Mahnke know if you would like to check out a Chromebook.

  3. CCS Chapel video links will be shared every Wednesday (beginning April 8) as an encouragement for our school community.

  4. All CCS Online classrooms will be using Google Classroom, RenWeb, and Zoom.

  5. The teachers will post links in Google Classroom for students to join Zoom live classrooms. These will not be scheduled for every class, every day. Teachers will share their Zoom meeting schedule with students.

  6. Students need to make every effort to join scheduled Zoom live classrooms. It will help us to stay connected, learn together, and answer questions so that everyone can move forward together.

  7. Pick up and drop off of materials and completed assignments at school will be April 2 from 3:00-4:30 PM. Holly Mahnke will send an email explaining all the details.

  8. Third-quarter is finished April 3. Report cards will be sent electronically by April 10.

  9. The school day will begin at 8:00 AM and will end by 2:15 PM. Class periods are 75 minutes. The assignments will vary from Zoom live classrooms to work students complete online – view links, write responses, collaborate with each other remotely, etc.

  10. Teachers will design assignments for each class period so that they are able to be completed during the scheduled time allotted (the only exceptions being upper division high school core and dual credit classes). We understand that this sudden increase and extension of online learning requires a higher level of self-discipline for most students to stay connected and manage their own schedules. We also understand that many of our junior high and high school students have responsibility for younger siblings in their household during this extended time of school campus closure.

Students will need:

  1. Their laptop/tablet/iPad and reliable internet access.

  2. A dedicated place to focus on their learning, free of distractions.

  3. To attend all class sessions which are scheduled using Zoom.

  4. Keep the camera on when Zoom is used for a class session.

  5. To communicate directly through Google Classroom or email to teachers about homework.

  6. A responsible adult to support learning; this may include providing structure to the day, general encouragement, or assistance in learning.

It is such a privilege to be in partnership with you during this unprecedented time. It is my prayer that God’s unfathomable grace and peace will fill you as we navigate all of this together. Be encouraged by the Psalms, as I have been, over the last few weeks in a new way as our good, good Father leads us in the way that we should go.

Because of His great faithfulness ~ Melissa Phillips

Psalms 65:5 “You answer our prayers with amazing wonders and with awe-inspiring displays of power. You are the righteous God who helps us like a father. Everyone everywhere looks to you, for you are the confidence of all the earth…”
