Additional Safety for CCS Online

Dear CCS Families~

I pray you are all doing well and adjusting to this glorious season in our lives of virtual EVERYTHING! This is probably not something that we would have chosen on our own, but God has called us outside of our comfort zone for such a time as this and I greatly appreciate the enthusiasm, graciousness and tenacity that you are all exhibiting as we take this on together. So, thank you!

One of the things that is surfacing as we figure out all of the systems and strategies in using online platforms, is the ongoing concern around safety and security. It has been brought to our attention that some families are concerned that the names on the Zoom pictures are not recognizable by the whole class or parents, even if the teacher knows who that particular student is because they have used a name other than their own in the past. The name that identifies the student on Zoom is the name that has been established on the device they are using unless they have changed it. Because of this we are putting into place the following measures:

1) faculty will not allow anyone into the Zoom call if the name is not recognizable as either the parent or the student…

2) students must use a name that is recognizably theirs…first name, last name, family name or CCS email…not something random or they will not be allowed to enter into the class until it is changed…

3) CCS will take added precautions to make sure that names are not visible if posting onto any social media platforms…

4) we have communicated with students, and teachers will communicate with them as well, that they will not be allowed into the class until their name fits the criteria above…

5) the option on our faculty zoom.us account that allows name changes will be disabled…

6) if the name on the device that your student is using has a name other than your family name or a name recognizable by your student’s teacher, please change the name to match the criteria above if at all possible…If this is not an option for you, please verify the name of the device being used with your student’s teacher…

If the name being used by your student already fits the criteria above, no action is required.

We so greatly value the importance of safety and security of our students during this online learning time and want to take every precaution to keep our students safe. If you have additional insight or tips and strategies that you believe would be beneficial and will provide additional safety and security for our students and families when using online learning, please let us know.

I am more grateful than I can even say, for each of you and the incredible partnership that we share. Thank you so much for walking through this with us for such a time as this.

Peace and Grace to you all ~ Melissa Phillips
